LIBRARY POLICY

The Library policy is designed to provide maximum benefits to the users of the Learning Resources Centre (LRC). The resources include Printed Books, E-Books, Reference materials, Journals, Magazines and VCDs. The Library has access to other OPEN SOURCE Books, e- journals and SCHOLARLY ARTICLES.

Who can avail/use the Library Facilities?

  • Students of the College
  • Faculty and Non-teaching staff of the College
  • To be able to use the Library facility students and staff need to have a Valid College Identity card

Policies pertaining to the Use of Facilities

READING FACILITY:

  • This facility is located on the First Floor of the LRC building. It can accommodate 50 readers at a time.
  • The reading facility is available on first-come-first-served basis and no reservation of sitting place is entertained.
  • This facility is available between 9.30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on all working days.

REFERENCE FACILITY:

  • This facility is located on the First Floor of the Library Building.
  • This facility is available between 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on all working days and 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

LENDING FACILITY:

  • The lending counter is located on the Ground Floor of the Library Building.
  • Students and staff of the College can borrow up to twenty books for seven days and two VCD for five days. And can be renewed thrice.
  • Contract/Lecture basis faculty can borrow up to Four books, and should be renewed after every 15 days.
  • Reference book and Journals are for reference only and not issued.

LIBRARY OVERDUE POLICY: FINES AND CHARGES

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure the timely return of library materials, maximizing their availability for all patrons, and to outline the associated charges for late returns.

Overdue Charge Rate

  • The overdue charge for all borrowed materials shall be Rs. 10/- (Ten Rupees) per day per item.
  • Charges begin accruing from the day immediately following the original due date.
  • Fines must be paid in cash only at the library circulation desk.
  • Patrons may be blocked from borrowing additional materials, renewing existing loans, or accessing certain library services until outstanding fines are cleared.

Lost or Damaged Materials

  • If an item is lost or severely damaged, the patron will be charged the replacement cost of the item, plus any overdue fines accrued up to the date the loss was reported. The replacement cost charge supersedes the daily overdue fine once assessed.

Appeals and Waivers

  • Patrons who believe a fine has been assessed in error may appeal the charge in writing to the Librarian within [e.g., seven (2)] days of the charge being assessed.
  • Waivers may be granted in extraordinary circumstances (e.g., documented medical emergency), at the sole discretion of the Librarian.
  • No complaints on the issue of overdue shall be entertained.

LOSS OF BORROWED ITEMS

  • If borrowers have lost any item, they have to inform the Librarian immediately through email at library@chowgules.ac.in. A penalty equivalent to 150 percent of the current cost of the item will be imposed on all lost items.

BEHAVIOUR IN THE LRC:

  • Users of the LRC should adhere to the code of conduct. Users are advised to familiarize themselves with this code which is available on the College website www.chowgules.ac.in.

GRIEVANCES WITH RESPECT TO THE FUNCTIONING OF LRC:

  • All grievances/complaints with respect to the function of the library should be brought to the notice of the College authorities. Grievances can be emailed to The Principal at principal@chowgules.ac.in.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BORROWER:

  • The borrowers are personally responsible for items borrowed from the library. They must ensure that the material borrowed from the LRC is not misused or soiled or in any form mishandled. The ultimate liability for the penalty will lie with the borrowers.

AUTHORITY OF APPEAL:

  • The final authority for appeal and for adjudication is The Principal.

IMPORTANT PROVISION – RIGHT TO AMEND:

  • The College reserves the right to amend these policies whenever the need arises.

PRESENT OVER VIEW OF LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE PRIVILEGES:

  • At present our research students can benefit from access to including in-house books, the latest research resources, dedicated work spaces.

  • The Learning Resource Centre is your gateway to high quality information relevant to research.

  • Access to a huge range of specialist information resources including 49723 print books, 18 Journals and Magazines and E-Resources LRC subscribes to 4 Newspapers (Hardcopy) and provides open access to E-dailies (National and International).

  • National Digital Library of India: Digital Library of India is a part of the online service of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and partner of the Million Book Project, provides free access to more than 1.5 million books in English and other Indian languages, available to everyone over the internet. LRC is a member of NDLI and students can access it from the link provided on the Library Website.

  • Shodhganga: a reservoir of Indian these @ INFLIBNET provides a platform for research students to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access. https://shodhganga.inflibnet.ac.in/

  • Research students of 325 Indian Universities 193961 Full Text Theses, 3900 Synopses are available to the entire scholarly community in open access. The repository has the ability to capture, index, and store, disseminate and preserve ETDs submitted by the researchers. It is an open source can be accessed from Library’s Website.

  • OTHER OPEN SOURCES: Other than NLIST, the Library has number of Open links to Open Journals, Open Dictionaries, Open Citation etc.

  • The library uses KOHA Library Management Software which has Web OPAC, wherein Books, can be searched using Title, Author, ISBN, Call no and Barcode, from anywhere anytime without Login into account.

  • Individual and group work Spaces - including a dedicated Reading Room.

  • Wi-fi facility is available.

  • The College Library also offers dedicated services for Researcher to support their specialist information needs.
